The Branding And Headshot Photography
What’s the difference?? It’s a common question, and a good one!
Headshots are… you guessed it - shots of your head. Basically, tightly cropped portraits that showcase your expression and energy. It might sound a little fru-fru but viewers make 1000 decisions about a person in the first second they see them! Your attire, expression, energy in the eyes, etc. can all communicate a feeling to the viewer. Things like “I’m a well qualified expert” or “I’m friendly and approachable” can be communicated with your headshot. These are typically displayed quite small (Linkedin icon, etc) so it’s important that we photograph them tightly cropped so they’re legible when displayed. Headshots are a very specific type of photo so there are lots of little tips & tricks that I use to help show you at your very best. The backgrounds are typically a solid color (I love light grey or charcoal, personally). That keeps the focus on your face and makes the photo very versatile since it doesn’t clash with any background.
Branding Photography can mean a wide variety of things. They are typically more environmental, and that context helps communicate your message (casual, industrial, etc). There are sub-genres like Personal Branding Photography which is geared towards 1-2 people. It can also describe photography for a small business that uses images of their team, product, or services to show customers and clients what they’re like. In any case, the more professional your photography is, the more professional you seem to potential clients. Branding photography sessions are great at generating content for your social media, website, and print marketing. In 2022, you need images to go along with words - even consumers on social media know this when they make a post with an image saying “photo for interest”. If nothing is there to catch their eye, the viewer will keep scrolling.
If you’re in the Cleveland or Akron area and need a headshot or branding photos - reach out and I’d love to hear what you have in mind. We do most of our sessions at our Hudson Photography Studio but can also shoot on-location as well.
